Welcome Statement

Welcome to my ePortfolio! My name is Jake Proffitt. I am an Electrical Engineering student at the Georgia Institute of Technology, where I specialize in robotics and bioengineering. Driven by a deep passion for biotechnology, I am dedicated to leveraging advanced technologies to revolutionize healthcare. My academic and extracurricular activities are centered around developing innovative medical solutions and devices, preparing me to contribute significantly to the field of bioengineering.

Education & Experience

Biography

Born and raised in Olney, Maryland, I have always been intrigued by the potential of integrating technology with biological systems to solve complex health challenges. This fascination led me to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology, with a specialization in robotics and bioengineering.

My academic journey is complemented by a rich array of projects and leadership roles that demonstrate my commitment to innovation and excellence. As the founder and president of the Sherwood High School Chess Club, I developed leadership and strategic thinking skills that have been instrumental in my educational pursuits. My initiative in founding and directing a therapeutic chess program for residents with neurodegenerative conditions at Brooke Grove Retirement Village showcases my ability to apply technology in ways that positively impact community health.

In addition to my academic and community service endeavors, I am an active Cadet in the Air Force ROTC, where I am training to become an officer. This experience is preparing me to handle complex challenges and leadership roles in both military and civilian sectors. My participation in the ROTC also includes leading efforts to establish a Strategy and War Games club, further honing my leadership and organizational skills.

My journey is driven by a passion to use my skills to develop technologies that improve health outcomes and enhance the quality of life. My hands-on experiences at Georgia Tech and beyond are shaping me into a dynamic and innovative leader, poised to make significant contributions to the field of biotechnology.

Career Goals

My long-term career aspiration is to become a leader in the biotechnology industry, focusing on creating cutting-edge medical devices and longevity solutions. To bridge the gap from where I am to where I aspire to be, I plan to engage in specialized research projects and secure internships that align with my interests in robotics applied to healthcare. Additionally, pursuing a Master’s degree in Bioengineering will deepen my expertise and expand my professional network in the biotech field.

I am committed to continuous learning and innovation, seeking opportunities that challenge me to solve real-world problems. Through collaboration with industry leaders and participation in groundbreaking research, I aim to drive advancements that will transform healthcare and improve quality of life on a global scale.

Technical Skills

Programming Languages: Proficiency in Python for data analysis and machine learning applications, basic competencies in C++ and Java for software development, and Arduino for hardware interfacing in robotics.

Engineering Software: Experience with MATLAB for mathematical modeling and simulations, SolidWorks for 3D modeling and design, and AutoCAD for drafting and design.

Robotics and Automation: Hands-on skills in designing, building, and programming robotic systems, including sensors integration, actuators, and control systems.

Data Analysis and Machine Learning: Ability to apply statistical methods and machine learning algorithms for data-driven decision-making and predictive modeling.
